The idea of finding a summer job in Spain sounds wonderful doesn’t it?
Many people love the idea of coming over to Spain just for the holiday season and living in Spain for the summer while working to pay their way.
Most will be students looking for summer work abroad to give them a combination of earning money over the summer before they go back to study in September, while also feeling like they are on holiday.
Perhaps you are also a student enjoying a gap year before you return to university, Spain is the perfect place to have fun, party and earn just about enough money to cover your food and accommodation.
You may also be a traveller looking to stop off in Spain and you want to get a summer job (also known as seasonal jobs & work) to partially fund and pay for your travelling costs.
The truth is that there are many summer jobs to be had in Spain due to the extremely popular tourist industry, in fact most years Spain is the second most visited country in the world. In 2022, 71.6 million foreign tourists visited Spain with the majority being from the United Kingdom.
Because Spain is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world there is a real need for short-term workers, especially English-speakers, just for the summer months of June, July, August and to a lesser degree September.
If you are searching for summer jobs in Spain the most obvious one is to look for is summer bar work and bar jobs in the most popular Spanish tourist spots. These do also include the big cities of Madrid and Barcelona as they also get high visitor numbers.
The Costa del Sol is the most popular coast for tourism and good places to search for summer jobs on the Costa del Sol would be the resorts of Marbella, Malaga, Mijas, Benalmadena, Torremolinos and Fuengirola.
The Costa Blanca coast would be the next best Costa to search for work, the best places for summer work would be Benidorm, Alicante, Calpe, La Manga, Murcia and Torrevieja.
The Costa Brava has a couple of large & lively resorts which are Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar where many British and English speaking people find bar work for the summer season.
The Spanish islands are also popular for example Ibiza, Lanzarote, Majorca (Mallorca), Gran Canaria (Canary Islands), Menorca and Tenerife.
Another option for finding summer work in Spain is to work as a waiter or waitress in a restaurant or as a chef. Another popular option is to find a summer job in a hotel in Spain or work as a tour rep looking after the tourists. These jobs may also have accommodation included.
How Much Can I Earn Over The Summer?
Expect wages in Spain to be low as employers take advantage of the fact that Spain is a desirable place to be spending your summer. If you are lucky lodging and accommodation will be included with your summer job. Wages are likely to be approximately €8-10 an hour. Many jobs and work in Spain will be part-time not full-time.
Clearly working in Spain for the summer is all about having the experience of a lifetime, not earning and saving money. Also you are in competition with workers from Eastern Europe and Morocco.
How Can I Find a Summer Job for 2024?
Unfortunately most summer vacancies in Spain will not be advertised and so you really need to travel about in Spain and ask locally – especially in the bars and restaurants. When looking for a summer job in Spain your best bet is to arrive as early as possible before the tourist season to secure your summer job before others do.
If you are looking to teach English in Spain as a summer job then you should look to contact Spanish language schools who may well be able to offer you a job before you travel.
Where is the Best Place to Work in Spain for the Summer?
The Spanish islands of Ibiza, Mallorca & Tenerife are the most popular places to work for the summer. Tourism means there is a high demand for English-speaking staff. You get to work in popular holiday resorts where tourists come to have fun so you won’t feel like you are working.
