About Tarifa
Tarifa is situated in the province of Cadiz in Andalusia. It is quite a small town but its unique location attracts many visitors each year for two main reasons.
The first is its location as the southernmost town in Spain (and continental Europe). From here you can catch a ferry to the North African coast line which is just 8 miles across the Strait of Gibraltar.
These ferries depart to Morocco and over the years Tarifa has developed a really unique mix of Spanish and Arabic influences mixed together. Indeed Tarifa is actually named after Tarif ibn Malik, the Moorish leader who captured the town back in 711.
The second reason that many people are attracted to Tarifa is the very reliable and consistent wind conditions that make this a haven for wind surfers and kite surfers who come here from all over the globe.
To the west of the town centre is the main beach, the Playa de los Lances, which stretches for over 10km towards the huge sand dunes at Punta Paloma.

Finding Work in Tarifa 2024
It is best to come to Tarifa for a few weeks so you can give out your number to as many different people as possible and give it enough time to get some phone calls back. Too many people give up too soon when searching for work and jobs.
We found a great story of a Polish couple who have done many jobs in the area and have now set up their own surf shop called Big Surf:
…. Ask any number of expat residents and they’ll tell you that they fell in love with Tarifa the moment they arrived and couldn’t bring themselves to leave.
This is most definitely true of Marcin and Paulina who came to Tarifa on holidays eight years ago after they’d finished college. Instantly hooked, they never left.
‘From the first moment Tarifa was perfect for me,’ Marcin explains. ‘I arrived here with my windsurf equipment and knew that Tarifa was a good spot for the sport. But when I saw the beach, I knew I was home.’
