The most popular Altea airport is flying into Alicante airport which has the most flight options with many low-cost carriers offering services. Alicante airport is 72 km to the south and the journey time is approximately 52 minutes to Altea.
Valencia airport is also worth checking for cheap flights and is 144 km to the north with an approximate transfer time of 90 minutes to Altea.
There is also a third transfer option to Altea which is to fly into San Javier Murcia Airport which is 155 km to the south with a transfer time of 95 minutes (Ryanair service Murcia airport).

How much does it cost to get a taxi from Alicante airport to Altea?
Taxi from Alicante Airport to Altea: The journey time is approximately fifty minutes at a cost of €85 is the fastest and most convenient way to get to Altea but certainly not the cheapest.
One should try and fix the fare with the driver prior to departure from the airport.
Taking a taxi from Alicante airport to Altea is the most expensive transfer option but also the most convenient because immediately outside the arrivals hall at Alicante airport is the taxi rank with taxis available 24 hours a day.
The taxi from Alicante airport to Altea will cost you €95 during the day and €113 at night but always check with your driver before you start the journey because sometimes there are extra passenger supplements and baggage supplements on top.
Getting a taxi to Altea from Alicante is extremely convenient because your driver will take you directly to your accommodation options such as your villa.
Private Shuttle Bus to Altea
Private Transfer from Alicante Airport to Altea : Shuttle companies such as Costa Blanca Transfers, Shuttle Direct, Blue Skies and Resort Hoppa offer a service which you can pre book to suit the size of the party.
This kind of transfer is much like a taxi service with the exception that the transfer is pre booked with the option of using the shuttle service as well on the day of departure.
Journey times are around fifty minutes at a cost of €25 per person each way. This rate was taken from Shuttle Direct. It pays to shop around and compare prices with the various shuttle service companies.
Another cheaper option of course is to book a cheap shuttle from Alicante Airport to Benidorm at only €8 per person, there are many services a day, and from there either catch the bus or the train to the resort.
As Altea is only ten minutes away by car it doesn’t add much to your journey time.
How much is a private shuttle bus from Alicante to Altea?
If you are able to plan your trip in advance you can pre-book a private shuttle bus transfer from Alicante airport to Altea for £35 per person each way.
The nice thing about booking a private shuttle transfer to Altea is that it is almost exactly the same as getting a taxi because you will be dropped at your chosen destination in Altea. The only possible slight inconvenience is meeting up with your shuttle transfer company. Many of the major companies have desks inside the arrivals terminal but some do not, so you actually have to meet a person who will take you to your shuttlebus.
There are also shared shuttle bus transfers to Altea which are cheaper than the private transfers but you share the journey with a potentially large number of other people also going to Altea so it may take a while with a number of stops along the way while you just want to get to your destination. The size of shuttle vehicle varies from small mini-buses to coach transfers to Altea.

Public Bus from Alicante Airport to Altea
The duration of the trip at least two hours as there is no direct bus connection between Alicante Airport and the resort of Altea.
You can either catch a taxi or the bus to the Alicante City Centre, and from there catch a bus to Altea at a cost of approximately €10 each way.
Train from Alicante Airport to Altea
This can be considered to be quite an arduous journey as there is currently no train station at Alicante Airport, but one could catch either a taxi or the bus to the train station in the Alicante City Centre and then catch a train to Benidorm and then connect to Altea.
As the train stops at every little town, village and resort on the way the journey time is at least two hours at a cost of approximately €50.
Altea Car Hire
Because Altea is quite a distance from either Alicante or Valencia it can be more economical to hire a car instead of getting airport transfers. Typically your average sized Altea car hire will cost approximately €100 per weeks hire and gives you the ability to explore the Costa Blanca region. Certainly there are some excellent places to visit such as Javea and Calpe.

Altea is quite spread out with much of the rented accommodations such as villas and apartments being located on urbanisations and on the hillsides of the resort.
You will need a car to get around to the supermarkets, bars, pubs, restaurants and the beach. All the major car companies are represented at Alicante Airport and you can compare companies to get the cheapest quote.
Car hire companies include Atesa, Auriga, Avis, Centauro, Europcar, Europa, Gold Car, Hertz, Record, Sixt and Sol Mar. Costs of hiring a car are dependent on the time of year, model and duration of the rental period. The journey time of course would also be approximately seventy-five minutes.
One can choose to pre book car hire which is a smart thing to do especially during the busy tourist season or organise the car hire after arriving at Alicante Airport.
It is a personal choice of how much money you are willing to spend on the transfer from Alicante Airport and Altea and how much time wants to spend in transit.
Car hire does seem to be the way to go for vacations in Altea especially if one has booked a villa on one of the more outer lying urbanisations of the resort.
