In Los Dolses you will find two commercial centres. The Rioja and Los Dolses are the two commercial centres about 10 minutes walk from Villamartin Plaza.
In La Rioja the Interim restaurant comes highly recommend offering a limited menu but the food and service are both superb. Another good Italian Restaurant is the Solo Mio.
In the Los Dolses Commercial Centre there are numerous bars with food, very popular during the day but not so busy as the Villamartin Plaza in the evenings, the exception being Nicky’s Bar has great décor and late night bar food.
For sports fans Madigans has several screens and for a nice friendly local-style atmosphere try PB’S a comfortable bar with decent food especially Sunday lunch.
There are also Indian, Greek, Chinese and German restaurants in the Complex. For the best pizza book a table at EJ’s.
7 Excursions and Days Out from Los Dolses
If you are going to a holiday to Los Dolses, here are some of our ideas for excursions so you make the most of your visit to Los Dolses on the southern Costa Blanca:
1. Visit the inland town of Elche famous for its palms.
2. Go north and visit the major city of Alicante – it has great beaches and a fantastic marina.
3. For history visit the city of Murcia or nearby towns of Rojales and Orihuela with their old towns and cave houses.
4. Guardamar del Segura is a large coastal town with great beaches.
5. Water Parks of Aqua-Park (at Rojales) and Aquapolis (at Torrevieja).
6. Safari Park at Elche (Rio Elche).

Golf
For golf fanatics Los Dolses is superb. The southern Costa Blanca has built up a highly deserved reputation due to the many golf courses all very close together which means you can be based in Los Dolses and travel to a different course each day.
The three championship courses of Villamartin, Campoamor and Las Ramblas are within 20 minutes drive as well as La Marquesa golf and country club which is near the small town of Ciudad Quesada and La Finca golf.
Villamartin
The nearest town to Los Dolses is Villamartin which is a five minute drive at the most and an easy fifteen minute walk. It is worth noting because of the large Villamartin plaza.
This is a square with a black and white chessboard pattern surrounded by shops, bars, cafes, banks and restaurants – see our dedicated Villamartin restaurants page for more details.
In the heat of summer the atmosphere is buzzing with life and noise. Certainly it is worth a visit for a night out.
Car Hire
We do recommend you hire a car to get the most out of your stay in Los Dolses because it is slightly inland. The beaches and golf courses are only about 15 minutes drive but clearly you can’t walk there.
Of course you could get taxis but car hire is so cheap it is much more convenient and easy just to jump in your own hire car.

Nearest Beaches
Because there are so many beaches along the Costa Blanca South you can find uncrowded white sandy beaches even at the height of the tourist season in August.
Examples of beaches close to Los Dolses are La Zenia, Cabo Roig, Playa Flamenca and Campoamor. All of them have the European Blue Flag which signifies high standards of water cleanliness, safety and good facilities for the family.
How To Get To Los Dolses
Los Dolses is located only two minutes from the A7 motorway and N-322 which takes you north to Alicante airport in about 45 minutes or drive south towards Murcia’s San Javier International airport in only 20 minutes.

Paul, what would you say would be the advantages to living in Los Dolses compared to other Costa Blanca towns?
Los Dolses is a quiet, family friendly area that is perfect for leisurely holidays in the sun or permanent living.
Would the area not suit certain types of people, i.e. are there any possible downsides?
The only downside is that on average prices are higher compared to other areas of Villamartin but this reflects on the size and quality of the properties available and the fact that it is seen as a desirable, upmarket area.
What proportion of the local population are Spanish?
Los Dolses is a cosmopolitan area attracting buyers from right across Europe and further afield.
What are your favourite things to do in the area?
Walking and cycling in the daytime, wining and dining of an evening. The golden sandy beaches are within 5 minutes drive where water sports activities are available.
Can you give us some insider tips to the best bars or restaurants?
Los Dolses commercial centre offers numerous cafes and bars and a few restaurants. It is mainly a daytime and early evening area. For nighttime restaurants and a very lively atmosphere, I would walk 10 minutes to the Villamartin Plaza or the La Fuente commercial centre.
Are there many facilities such as doctors and dentists, shops etc?
There are numerous, bars, shops and restaurants, banks etc. The local doctor and pharmacy are all within walking distance. From Los Dolses you can walk in less than 15 minutes to the Zenia Boulevard shopping mall which is the largest shopping mall in the Alicante Province. There are hundreds of high street shops including a Primark and a wonderful food court. There is also a casino, bowling alley and a gym.
Are there smaller villages nearby that you might also recommend?
San Miguel is a local Spanish town with a weekly market on a Wednesday. The main market is in Playa Flamenca right next to the Zenia Boulevard and this is on a Saturday morning.
What are the nearest international schools and how good are they?
Alicante is a 50 minute drive. Murcia San Javier is just a 20 minute drive and both accessible from the AP7 motorway. You can join the AP7 at the La Zenia toll junction and this is a 2 minute drive from Los Dolses. They are both excellent airports.
Is crime an issue for expats?
Not really. There is substantially less crime in comparison to any major town or city in the UK. Unfortunately where you have a group of tourists there will always be someone looking to take advantage so just be careful with bags when at the weekly market or in a busy supermarket.
Coming onto buying property, what is the market like now in terms of prices going up, or down or staying the same?
Prices have dropped 50 percent since the peak of late 2007 or early 2008. Prices have been static for a couple of years but 2015 saw a big rise in the number of properties sold in the Alicante province and a small increase in prices.
Is this a good time to buy and are there any repossessions or very cheap properties still available to buy?
Now is a very good time to buy as prices are on the rise. There are not many repossession properties in the Los Dolses area and any that come on to the market are snapped up very quickly.
What urbanisations are there and can you describe each one and how they might differ from each other?
Los Dolses is one big urbanisation divided into several sectors. All sectors offer large, very good quality properties set around fantastic communal swimming pool and garden areas.
How much are typical property prices in Los Dolses for apartments, villas etc?
Apartments are 100k to 125k euros, houses are 115k to 175k euros, detached villas are around 200k and higher and if you want a villa with a private pool or space for a private pool, then you would expect to pay 250k euros and higher.
Any tips and advice to people looking to buy in Los Dolses or surrounding area?

I like Orihuela-Costa not, because it is littered with garbage and noise and nobody does anything about it. One should look at the urbanization of Los Dolses once. There especially the commercial centers Rioja and Los Dolses. The bars are full of dirt and around it, it looks even catastrophic. Given the unbridled musical noise, the sonicated the housing estates, on a relaxing vacation rest is there not to think! Explore the street along the canal on. Everywhere empty bottles, cans, garbage bags and other debris. For this purpose a volume of traffic like on a national highway. Complaints to the town hall or the police are ignored. We will make never again vacation there and warn all our acquaintances.
