Tossa de Mar

Tossa de Mar is a lovely town because of the preserved ancient remains of the walls and castle which was built to defend the town from invaders. The old town is pretty much intact and is called Vila Vella (old quarter) with cobbled streets and museum.

Read our main Tossa de Mar page for detailed tourist information on the resort.

What a wonderful stretch of coastline full of green lush valleys and forests.

Families love the wide crescent shaped beach (Platja Gran) which has shallow waters ideal for young children. The backdrop of the old walls and castle is simply superb.

Families with children also appreciate the fact that the resort is not too busy at night. This is not Ibiza nor is it Lloret de Mar the noisy neighbour further down the coast. You wouldn’t come to Tossa de Mar for it’s nightlife.

There are plenty of international restaurants which will appeal to kids but do try be adventurous and try some local specialities of the region such as Fideua a la Cassola.

This can be compared to paella, but instead of rice it substitutes small and thin noodles instead. It may include a combination of shellfish, meat, chicken and vegetables. For dessert try Crema Catalana or natillas, a delicious custard dessert.
