What makes someone look for a chimney sweep – is it people who have left it too late and have a problem?
“A lot of the time people do leave it too long and then have issues which need sorting out like smoke pouring into the room, chimney fires causing damage, birds in the chimney, cracked linings, creosote issues – the list is unlimited.
We do try and educate people on the ins and outs of having a wood burning appliance, it is slow but we do get there especially with regulars.”
Is there a typical cost?
“Average cost with us is €90 plus IVA, although this is set to rise shortly.”
Do many new house have fireplaces built in or is it just in the older style villas and fincas?
“Chimneys do tend to be built in most properties and its only really apartments where they sometimes get left out.
Some chimneys are not even thought about properly when properties are constructed often causing many issues such as non venting etc.
Again this is where we come in as we do have to often fix bad installations and re work schematics of the chimney dimensions.
We are waiting for Spain to come up to code where you have to have your chimney certified every year for the insurance purposes (as in the rest of Europe) but as it is Spain, its slow in coming in.”
