Mobility Services & Mobility Scooter Hire in Benidorm

Thanks to television programmes such as Benidorm, mobility scooters have become all the rage not only in Benidorm, but in most coastal resorts of the Spanish mainland as well as the Balearics and the Canary Islands.

Mobility scooters are not only for the over 55’s and disabled but for very abled people who just want to have a good time. Mobility scooters are even available for rent at the theme parks at €28 for the day. Mostly in the resort you can rent a mobility scooter by the week or in some cases for convenience sake from as little as €6 a day.

If you already own a mobility scooter then you can try and see if you can take it with you on the aeroplane but would you also have to check with the individual carriers to see what regulations they have regards wheelchairs, mobility scooters and batteries before booking your flights and airport transfer.

As mentioned before Benidorm scooter rental is all the rage and it is surprising to see how many of them you can see on any given day in the resort even in the off peak season. Officially numbers indicate that there are more than 500 mobility scooters being rented out by the week. Although it seems to be a stereotype, it does seem to be mainly British holidaymakers and day tourists that hire out the mobility scooters.

Many people just rent them to enjoy their vacation but the irresponsible behaviour of tourists has made the Benidorm Town Hall rethink their policies. Mobility scooters have been rented out people going on stag and hen nights to go on the Benidorm pub crawls and have then crashed their vehicles into glass doors causing nasty accidents. Some tourists have even reported children turning hotels into race tracks while their parents are enjoying afternoons relaxing by the swimming pool endangering those around them.

Unfortunately the new regulations coming into force will affect Benidorm mobility scooter rental agencies negatively. Only the over 55’s and disabled will be able to rent a mobility scooter on their vacation or be in possession of a doctor’s certificate indicating the necessity of a mobility scooter. All mobility scooters will have to have a registration number identifying individual ownership or that of the agency.

Speeding fines and drunk driving fines will require immediate payment or the rental agency will have to pay the fine and be out of pocket. It would certainly not be worth their while to rent them out to holidaymakers who don’t qualify under the new regulations.

It’s a shame that the actions of a small minority of tourists affects the enjoyment of holidaymakers as well as have a lasting affect on the already struggling Benidorm business owners.

Are you visiting Benidorm and in need of mobility scooter hire and rental?

These local companies and businesses provide other mobility services such as the sale and hire of wheelchairs, walking aids etc.

Benidorm attracts a lot of older tourists who come here to soak up some sun especially in the winter months. Needless to say many of these people have some mobility issues and where ever you go in Benidorm you will see many mobility scooters.

The attraction of Benidorm to the older generation is the long flat promenades of Playa Levante and Playa Poniente lined with bars, cafes and restaurants.

The town itself is relatively flat and compact with all the facilities you would need within walking distance so it is ideal for retirees who don’t want the hassle of having to hire a car to get around.
