Why Retirement is a Terrible Idea (What to Do Instead)...

For 30 years, I built businesses with one goal in mind: the finish line. Like many, I pictured the classic dream—moving to Spain, soaking up the sun, and finally switching off. But now that I’m here, I’ve started questioning everything.

Watch the video below and let me know in the comments: are you ready to retire or reinvent instead?

Restaurants in the Port of Javea

Azorin – Located one street back of the promenade, opposite the Quicksave supermarket and behind the Napoli Pizzeria. Telephone 965 794 495.

“It’s some time since we went to Azorin but we used to go frequently. This is Spanish, cheap, crowded, noisy and serves a limited-choice three course meal with wine. The chicken soup and fish and chips are specially recommended. There is a no-smoking area, book early. Good for kids if you can stand the adult noise.” Maurice H. March ’08

“Azorin is a great restaurant in the cheaper range with the Menu del Dia (with three choices of starter and main course) costing about 8.50 euros including half a bottle of wine. The restaurant is very consistent – by this I mean it is always good whereas sometimes with other restaurants the quality can vary depending on what day you go and what staff are working. Family run, completely non-smoking Spanish restaurant with good service. Quite bright inside so not suitable for an intimate romantic occasion! Many people come here especially for the soups they are that good although Azorin’s main specialty are their fish dishes. I love the artichokes (when in season) but I find the paella too salty for me. Closed Saturdays. 9 out of 10.” Anna B. March ’08

Caragato Soul Kitchen – Lovely location in Javea port, this is a place to be seen. This restaurant specialises in Indonesian home cooking food. You can also relax in the lounge inside or outside with great views. Telephone 966 460 115. Address: Calle Posito Pescadores 2, Javea Puerto.

El Portet – Where: If you are facing the cinema in the Port then it is a few doors down to the right (where the steps go up and then down).

“I would say this is our favourite Javea restaurant. Something I love and which isn’t immediately obvious is that they have a fantastic terrace/garden out the back of the restaurant with vines hanging down. Sitting out the back in summer is lovely, you can smell the jasmine. El Portet is Spanish run and my husband swears the tiramisu is the best he has ever tasted! We eat here in both the summer and winter. The Menu del Dia is under 11 euros and comes with half a bottle of wine although it is not available on weekends or fiestas.” June S. March ’08

Escollera Restaurant – “A worthy rival to El Portet in the Port is sandwiched between them and the Cinema. This excellent elegant and friendly restaurant has a good website www.escollerajavea.com. Tel 96 579 4994. Service is professional and the décor understated modern. 3 Menu del Dias from 11 to 15 euros give a good choice. We loved it and have booked an evening meal with our daughter and husband later this week.” P.P. October 2008

Gurkha Palace – Located in the Port area of Javea this is regarded by many as Javea’s best Indian restaurant. Telephone: 965 793 331.

“We have twice recently eaten at the Gurka Palace in Jávea. The food is now extremely tasty and their hotter dishes are truly fiery too. I would highly rate the Gurka Palace.” Mike L. March ’08

Iggy Doppo – “Small cosy Italian bistro (as they should be). A great host/owner with excellent service and food.” John R. March ’08

Panda – “Just outside of the Port is the Panda for Chinese food. If you like duck then this restaurant is number one. The portions are huge and best of all it’s very cheap.” Linda H. March ’08

El Posit – “Fish restaurant in a fantastic location in Javea Port. Fantastic food presentation with good table cloths, china and cutlery. The service is good and overall the Posit restaurant is well above average.” John R. March ’08

La Cocina – Avenida Lepanto 2, Javea (next to the petrol station). Telephone 965 795 140.

From the owner – The restaurant can seat around 40 people comfortably, is very modern and has an open kitchen, so the clients are able to see the kitchen and also whet their appetites with the aromas that waft through to the dining room.

Our menu is strongly influenced from recipes from Northern Spain using excellent ingredients such as buey, iberican pork, venison and scallops all of which are prepa
