The Blue Bar Formentera

If somebody said to me that I could be beamed to anywhere in the world like the crew from Star Trek, I would have to be teleported to the Blue Bar in Formentera!

Yes it is a beach bar, yes it is old and weathered – but it is my piece of paradise on earth.

Okay perhaps I’m going slightly overboard but the Blue Bar was the icing on the cake of my fantastic day scootering around the island of Formentera.

I was on a mission to find the place because our Formentera webcam page introduced me to it. I read of the webcam that beams live images from the Blue Bar of Platja Migjorn, the longest stretch of beach on the island.

I read about the cool chill out music and figured this was a place that I wouldn’t mind finding.

Of course many people could go there and not understand what I saw all of what I felt bad for me it was about a vibe. With the sun slowly setting we just enjoyed chilling out, listening to some amazing and unusual music.

We loved the decor as you will see in the pictures. In particular the alien who appears to be the mascot or brand of the bar.

Even the trees were painted blue!

I liked the fact that this beach bar didn’t feel commercialised like some of the others we came across on Ibiza. Sure, I did enjoy the Sunset Strip in San Antonio, but there was something about the new gigantic all modern and expensive Cafe del Mar that just made the old bar redundant and I felt sad like a piece of me had died.

For me watching the sun go down, having a drink at the Blue Bar, which felt quite remote to get to, we had to scooter down a dirt road for a couple of kilometres, felt the real deal.

There was also a really strange character, a gigantic man who was drying €50 notes on the table next to us, again I think this would just be typical of the Blue Bar.

You can also eat there and they also put on special DJ sets every so often.

Open every day from the end of April until mid October the Blue Bar & Restaurant is set on the beautiful Platja Migjorn with wonderful views as you can see from their webcam.
