Entertainment and News Update 21 July 2017

Welcome to the newsletter and unusually, today I ask YOU for some help and advice regarding Spain!!!

I’ve booked from the 12th to the 25th of August off and I am taking my two daughters (ages 17 and 14) on a ‘road trip’ anywhere they want to go in Spain.

I’d like them to properly meet Spanish people to accelerate their Spanish – my eldest is half-way through her A level in Spanish and my youngest will be doing Spanish at GCSE for the next two years. It would be good to stay with Spanish families who have kids learning English.

I am also worried about finding accommodation, does anyone have suggestions or ideas?

Maybe some suggestions of special things to do that they would always remember, I just want this to be a special holiday with their dad that they never forget.

Any ideas or help appreciated.

Euro Reaches 8-Month High Versus Pound, as ECB to Taper Stimulus

Welcome to Pure FX’s latest update of the euro to pound interbank exchange rate.

The common currency surges versus sterling!

The euro to pound interbank exchange rate has hit 0.8990 today, its strongest in 8 months, or since November 2nd last year.

By contrast, the euro was as weak as 0.84 against the pound on May 10th. Hence, it’s since risen by +6 cents, or +7.02%.

To put this into context, a €250,000 transfer to the UK would be worth +£14,750 more with Pure FX than 2 months ago.

(Please bear in mind, these are the interbank rates at the time of writing. This means the exchange rate may have changed since then.)

Euro may strengthen, as ECB to discuss taper

What’s more, looking forward, the euro could continue to rise against the pound. Here’s why:

  1. The euro may rise, because European Central Bank president Mario Draghi said yesterday that the ECB will discuss cutting back its vast monetary stimulus in the “Autumn”.

  1. The common currency could strengthen, because Mr. Draghi also said yesterday that “we are finally experiencing a robust [economic] recovery” in the Eurozone.

  1. The euro may climb, because the ECB president added too “reflation has replaced the risk of deflation” in Europe, telling us that the ECB has defeated the risk of spiralling prices.

  1. The pound could weaken, because EU Chief Negotiator Michel Banier said yesterday that there has been “little progress” in Brexit talks so far.

With all this in mind, the euro could exceed its 8-month high against the pound!
