Entertainment and News Update 27 October 2017

The last newsletter I was asking for any advice on where best to take my two teenage daughters for a roadtrip.

Well thank you because we had a blast!!!

Here are some of the highlights:

Granada is a must see city in Andalucia where we started our trip. Vibrant and buzzing at night, temperatures were 36 degrees but wonderful!

Mijas Pueblo

The girls loved the touristy village of Mijas Pueblo on the Costa del Sol – great views of the coast and some nice restaurants – worth a visit.

Puerto Banus

Glitzy Puerto Banus (and Marbella) were nice to have a stroll and there were many restaurants and bars which were very affordable, I was pleasantly surprised!

We drove inland to Ronda and it is well worth it – the surrounding scenery is beautiful.

Gibraltar Rock

The monkeys at the top of the cable car on Gibraltar Rock literally attack anyone with food. They enjoyed a Burger King lunch this day from some unsuspecting tourists who got mugged!

Costa de la Luz

We stayed a few days on the Costa de la Luz and loved it – just outside of Tarifa, we enjoyed the unspoilt coast and did some surfing, well we tried to surf anyway!

Cadiz Cathedral

We mixed in some culture too – this is Cadiz cathedral.

The girls had lots of chances to practice their Spanish as we frequently got lost and we stayed in AirBnB’s every night – I really recommend using them.

Did you know?

Spain had more unemployment in 2013 (27.2%) than the US had during the Great Depression (25%).

Pound Hits 3-Week High Versus Euro, as ECB Extends Vast Stimulus

Peter Lavelle

Welcome to Pure FX’s latest update of the pound to euro interbank exchange rate.

Sterling strengthens versus the common currency!

The pound to euro interbank exchange rate has hit its highest in 3 weeks this week, or since October 2nd, at 1.1293, making this a fantastic time to buy a Spanish property.

What’s more, looking ahead, the pound could continue to rise versus the common currency. Here are 5 reasons why:

  1. Sterling could rise, because UK GDP rose by +0.4% in Q3, above market forecasts for +0.3%.

  1. The pound may strengthen, because the Bank of England looks set to lift interest rates by +0.25% next to week, to +0.5%, the 1st hike in 10 years.

  1. The euro could lose out, because the European Central Bank extended its vast stimulus program to at least September 2018 yesterday.

  1. The common currency may fall, because ECB President Mario Draghi said that the bank’s stimulus is an “open-ended program” that will “not stop suddenly”.

  1. The euro could weaken, because Eurozone business activity fell to 55.9 this month, according to IHS Markit, below forecasts for 56.5.

With all this in mind, it’s the ideal time to buy a Spanish property, as sterling could continue to climb versus the euro!

Recipe of the Week – Fried Milk (Leche Frita)

“Learn how to make “fried milk” (leche frita) a typical dessert from Spain. This sweet dessert with a delicate flavor is crispy on the outside and smooth on the inside. As delicious as simple to prepare!”
