Onil – The Essential Guide from Local Residents…

Enjoy our quick guide to Onil, a town situated in the comarca of L’Alcoià, in Spain’s Alicante province.

Maria, thanks for helping our readers. I guess we should start off by asking what would you say would be the advantages to living in Onil compared to other Costa Blanca towns?

Onil is located 40 km from Postiguet Beach in Alicante.

It is a town surrounded by mountains with an immense ecological value with amazing landscapes for enthusiast of the environment and outdoors sports such as hiking.

Would the area not suit certain types of people, i.e. are there any possible downsides?

It has not got any disadvantage. It is near the sea and connected through highway with the main seaside cities to the ones who love the sea and want to rest near the environment. They count on rural hotels and a great variety of cultural activities.

What proportion of the local population are Spanish?

Approx. 6.000 inhabitants

Onil has a population of 7.000 inhabitants approx.

What are your favorite things to do in the area?

Onil is a town where many important sportsmen live. Also it is well-known because of its gastronomy that has been maintained along over the years.

Can you give us some insider tips to the best bars or restaurants?

Once you are in Onil, you can ask in the info point, where visitors are informed about different available gastronomic options.

Are there many facilities such as doctors and dentists, shops, etc?

In Onil there are all the necessary services such as health facilities, dentists…

Are there smaller villages nearby that you might also recommend?

Castalla, Biar, Ibi, Villena… are some of the nearest towns to Onil and each one with its singular enchantment and cultural and gastronomic culture, well each one has its own typical and well-known dishes.

What are the nearest international schools and how good are they?

You can find the Bilingual School Muntori in Castalla, just 3km from Onil.

Muntori School is located in Castalla (Alicante region) and was opened in 2008. Currently, their students can study different languages such as Spanish, English, German and Valencian among others.

Coming onto buying property, what is the market like now in terms of prices going up, or down or staying the same?

Prices are lower now if you compared them with a few years ago.

Any tips and advice to people looking to buy in Onil or surrounding area?

It is the best moment to buy properties in Onil or in the Costa Blanca because according to the country’s economic situation, many properties are sold below their real cost prices.
